I don't know this is not the concept of OpenSolaris OS 2008.05 but I tried to add all packages from opensolaris.com.

After invoked Package Manager, Edit -> Select All and click Install/Update. It checks dependencies and hangs it uses about 157MB memory (observed by prstat)

Anyone succeed it?

On my test system (very low specs) the graphical installer often hangs for no apparent reason (especially trying to pull out massive amount of data from the blastwave repository, but that's just my impression maybe).

The command line tools, however, almost always work out fine: have you tried with pkg(1) ?

thanks for your comment. I'll try pkg.
By the way I found a package named "entire". does it equivalent to the "entire distribution?" But this package labeled "installed" so it appears to mean "entire CD" kind of thing, right?

yes and no, it's the base system update, but that's different from the whole cd. (if you're familiar with FreeBSD systems, updating entire is like rebuilding world, or using freebsd-update)
When installed it did update a lot of stuff, but not, for example, the window manager or the 3rd party apps (browser etc.).
Btw, before installing anything na entire a snapshot is created, and after installation you have the option of booting into your original installation or the updated one (named solaris-1 in grub)

I was wondering if there were a easy way to install all the standard packages from the default distribution. I want to keep the global zone pretty minimal and use a non global zone as the primary working zone.

I was able to enable xdmcp, but I cant get gnome running because installing SUNWgnome-wm seems to miss lots of dependencies - I had to install xorg-server after installing SUNWgnome-wm, it seems to me that installing SUNWgnome-wm should automatically install xorg-server if it's not already installed.
