OpenSoloaris LiveCD hangs during boot.

My system specs are:

AMD Athlon 64 3200+
1.5 GB RAM
Asus A8S-X Motherboard with Intel 82540EM LAN
Nvidia GeForce 6200TC PCI-Express
SBLive
40GB Maxtor PATA HDD (I wan't to put Opensolaris here)
250GB Maxtor SATA HDD (For Windows XP and data)
USB Mouse
USB Keyboard
Samsung Syncmaster 930BF 19" 1280x1024 connected with DVI
Samsung R87 26" HDTV connected with VGA.

When I boot the Opensolaris LiveCD I can get past the language selection, but I do not get to the GNOME desktop. Instead I am left with a login prompt at the console. After about a minute of further CD activity, the system hangs (the keyboard cannot be used and I have to hit the reset button to reboot).
I have tried using PS/2 adaptors for my mouse and keyboard, disabling APIC, USB2 in the BIOS settings, but nothing works.

Can anyone help me, please?

Perhaps you have a S-ATA DVD drive?
With the current release you cannot boot the DVD with such a drive due to a bug.

I had the same problem until I temporarily used an old IDE cd drive :-)

The USB CD compresses and freezes the programs especially when it is formatted to save disk space. The OS is enabled to operate again but the drives need to be installed and updated. Reboot in safe mode to follow OS paths and the system should work.

I'm having the same issue. I ordered the free media, and the livecd boots perfect on my desktop, but hangs right at the "Use is subject to License......." screen, right after the blue splash from the grub goes away on my laptop. My best guess is a driver issue. Would love to install Solaris on my laptop, any suggestions?

Hi Steven,

No news from you since your opening post, maybe you've let it all down !

Well, just in case you'd still be willing to give it another try, here are some steps that you can go through to get more information about the problem :

1- try to boot with mouse unplugged to see if it goes past the point where you usually get hung

2- if not, you can put aside a problem on mouse driver, try then to boot on liveCD's text console

3- if it boots on text console, look at the content of /var/adm/messages file to see if there's a warning or an error with some of your hardware

4- type command "prtdiag -v" to see if there's any anomaly on the hardware detected by the OS during boot

5- type command "prtconf -D" to see whether there are drivers for vital devices that OpenSolaris can't find or load

If you're lucky, maybe OpenSolaris will be able to bring the network up during text console boot, so you'll be able to connect to it from another machine via SSH (with PuTTY on Windows for example), type the above commands and post their output here ;-)

Unfortunately, if it doesn't boot on text console either, then sorry but we're stuck !
No way to get the boot messages = no way to troubleshoot the problem !

I am having the same problem, I'll try the safe mode.
